We had enough time before our embarkation to do a quick tour of Mumbai. There is a more comprehensive post about our Mumbai tour on the "Asia Adventure - India 2024" blog; below is a short post about some of the things we saw.

Our tour started with a visit to the Gateway of India on the waterfront.

As we drove on to visit Victoria Terminus train station (now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus) we passed by some of the Art Deco buildings in the area. This building "Dhanraj Mahal" built in the 1930s, was the former palace of the Raja Dhanrajgir, and once the largest and costliest building in Mumbai

Victoria Terminus / Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus with it's unique architecture. No time to go inside, and with the station servicing an estimated 3 millions people a day, maybe that was a good thing.

From the train station, we drove over to the largest outdoor laundry in the world, past this major street in Mumbai, mixing old buildings in the foreground with the new skyscrapers in the background.

Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat, the largest outdoor laundry in the world. It sits in stark contrast to the brand new buildings behind.

Our next stop was a visit to "Mani Bhavan" the house Gandhi lived in when he was in Mumbai (Bombay).

Our next stop was the hanging gardens, perched at the top of Malabar Hill. The park was laid out in 1881 over Bombay's main reservoir.

The park featured topiary animals and some beautiful flowers.

We passed by this statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. [Ambedkar played a crucial role in drafting the Indian Constitution and creating laws that safeguard the rights of all citizens. He recognized the power of law in creating social change and used it to empower the marginalized communities.]

Our last stop was at the famous Leopold Cafe, a Mumbai staple since 1871.

It wasn't hard to see why the Leopold was popular. We only had time for a quick snack (that featured one of these desserts) before heading off to embark the ship.

Our last sight of Mumbai as we sailed away that evening.
