We had another Celebrity excursion "Heritage Tour and Shopping". This was a bus tour that would take us around the island a bit, with a stop at a road side stand for fruits and spices, up to the Butterfly Farm and a stop at a Batik Factory.

We drove past this intricate decorated temple (but don't know which one it is).

We made a stop at a small village where the guide talked to us about some of the local flowers and plants.

On our drive up to the Butterfly Farm, we made a stop on the road to visit some fruit and spice stalls.

The guide explained to us about nutmeg, the apricot shape that it looks like on the tree, then inside there is a kernel with a red membrane (the membrane is dried and ground to make Mace) and inside the kernel is the nutmeg seed - that's what we're used to seeing.

We bought a package of the candied shredded nutmeg fruit (above, right) something we'd never tried before sampling it here. It's tasty, with a mild nutmeg flavour to it.

Our next stop was a visit to "Entopia by Penang's Butterfly Farm". It is one of the most extensive butterfly gardens in Malaysia with approximately 15,000 free-flying butterflies at any one time consisting of up to 60 species.

The exhibit was nicely done, with a lot of greenery and water. It was also very hot and humid - but I guess the butterflies didn't mind. And there were a lot of butterflies, often fluttering right past your head.

Not just butterflies either, there were these ducks and a few turtles added to the mix.

From the Butterfly Farm, we then made a visit to the handicraft Batik Factory to see the traditional technique of printing cloth with wax and dye. Malaysian batik is a textile art in Malaysia, especially on the east coast of Malaysia. The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers.

The artists were very skilled, and drew most of the designs by hand.

One of the more colourful Batik examples.

Back into town, and the pier where our ride was waiting to take us to the next port of call.

From the ship, we could see a portion of the large modern city, but our excursion took us away from the city, so we didn't see much of it this time.
